Dear Friend,

For the Archdiocese of New York, this month marks a moment of historic change. On Friday, February 6, the Most Reverend Ronald A. Hicks was installed as the 11th Archbishop of New York, succeeding His Eminence, Timothy Cardinal Dolan. We are blessed to welcome Archbishop Hicks as our new shepherd, and we hope the interview and short biography included in this newsletter help you come to know him better.

This transition also brings a meaningful moment of gratitude, as Cardinal Dolan, after nearly 17 years of dedicated service as Archbishop of New York, enters a well-deserved retirement. We are profoundly thankful for the faith, leadership, and pastoral care he has offered our Church, and we invite you to share your own message of thanks to him through the link below.

This new chapter also coincides with the launch of the 2026 Appeal across our parishes. Each year, the Appeal sustains the mission of our Church by supporting faith formation, Catholic education, and outreach that touch lives throughout our communities. Through the generosity of our parishes and friends, our archdiocese supports initiatives such as the March for Life and Catholic Schools Week, impacting parishes, schools, and families across the region.

In his final message for the 2026 Appeal, Cardinal Dolan expresses his deep gratitude for the extraordinary generosity shown during his years as archbishop and asks that this same spirit of support be extended to Archbishop Hicks, so that the Church’s mission may continue to flourish for the good of God’s people.

We ask for your prayers and support for our archdiocese and for Archbishop Hicks as he begins his ministry among us. As he reminded us at his installation Mass, “God is with us always.” Strengthened by that assurance, we look ahead with confidence and hope, committed to ensuring that the Church continues to serve, teach, and inspire for generations to come.

Sincerely,

Thank you, Cardinal Dolan

As we welcome our new shepherd, we also bid farewell to Cardinal Dolan, who now enters into his next chapter after nearly 17 years of faithful service as our archbishop. We thank God for him and are all eternally grateful for all he has done for us. If you would like to express your gratitude to him, you can share with him a message of thanks on the archdiocese’s website.

The 2026 Cardinal’s Appeal is Underway

The 2026 Appeal kicked off on January 24–25, when pastors across the archdiocese announced to their parishes their fundraising goals for the year. Cardinal Dolan, for the last time as our archbishop, released a special video for the launch, explaining the importance of the Appeal for our Church and thanking all of those who have supported it during his many years as our shepherd.

March for Life

On January 26, a large group from our archdiocese traveled to Washington, D.C., with support from our Appeal-funded Respect Life Office, to participate in the annual March for Life in support of the dignity of all human lives, born and unborn. Thank you for your generosity, which made our prayerful witness at this national and important event possible.

Catholic Schools Week

January 25–31 marked Catholic Schools Week, an annual celebration that highlights the value of Catholic education. Sr. Mary Grace, the Superintendent of Schools for the Archdiocese of New York, wrote a letter for the occasion, giving thanks for the gift of a Christ-centered, faith-filled Catholic education—a gift which is able to be given to thousands of students in archdiocese each year thanks to your support of the Appeal.
